Duty of Candour Statement
1. Our Philosophy of Honesty
At the UK ME/CFS specialist clinic, we are committed to providing safe, high-quality care. However, healthcare is complex, and if a mistake occurs or an unexpected complication arises during your treatment, we pledge to follow the Statutory Duty of Candour. This means we will be open and honest with you about what happened.
2. Our Promise to You
If an incident occurs that results in moderate or severe harm, or if a "near miss" is identified, we will:
Inform you as soon as possible: We will notify you promptly after we become aware of the incident.
Provide a full explanation: We will offer a face-to-face (virtual) meeting to explain all the facts we know at that time.
Offer a sincere apology: We will provide a formal apology for the incident and the impact it has had on you.
Support you: We will provide reasonable support to help you through the aftermath of the incident.
Investigate and share: We will conduct a thorough internal investigation to understand why the incident happened and share the findings with you.
3. Continuous Learning
We view the Duty of Candour not just as a legal obligation, but as a vital part of our culture of safety. Every incident is reviewed by our Clinical Governance team to ensure we implement changes to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
4. Further Information
