Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

  1. Referral

To maintain the highest standards of clinical safety and continuity of care, UK ME/CFS specialist clinic, is a referral-only service. We do not accept self-referrals from patients.

Why we require a GP Referral

A referral from your NHS or private GP ensures that our doctors have a verified, professional summary of your health. This is essential for:

  • Clinical Context: Understanding your long-term medical history and previous treatments.

  • Safety: Identifying potential drug interactions with your current prescribed medications.

  • Accuracy: Reviewing recent blood test results and diagnostic reports directly from your primary care record.

How to Book an Appointment

Before booking with us, please follow these steps:

  1. Consult your GP: Speak with your regular GP about your concerns and request a formal referral to UK ME/CFS specialist clinic.

  2. Submit your Referral: Your GP can send the referral letter directly to us at admin@ukmecfsspecialist.co.uk, or you can upload a digital copy during the booking process.

  3. Include Medical Data: Ensure your referral (or accompanying documents) includes:

    • A full list of currently prescribed medications.

    • Your most recent blood test results (ideally from the last 3–6 months).

    • A summary of your past medical history.

Documentation Requirements

We cannot proceed with a consultation until we have received and reviewed your professional referral and medical summary. If you book an appointment without a valid referral, your appointment may be cancelled in accordance with our [Booking Policy].

  • Will you inform my NHS GP about my consultation? With your consent, we can send a summary of your consultation and any prescriptions to your NHS GP. This ensures your medical records are kept up to date.

2. Appointments & Booking

  • Can I change or cancel my appointment? You can reschedule or cancel for a full refund if you give us more than 14 days' notice. Due to the high demand for our clinicians' time, appointments cannot be changed or refunded within 14 days of the scheduled time.

  • What happens if I miss my appointment? If you do not join the video call within 10 minutes of the start time, the appointment is marked as a "non-attendance" and is strictly non-refundable.

  • What equipment do I need for the video call? Any smartphone, tablet, or computer with a camera, microphone, and a stable internet connection. You will receive a secure link via email/SMS—simply click it to join.

3. Prescriptions & Referrals

  • How do I get my medicine? If the doctor issues a prescription, we send a digital token to your chosen UK pharmacy. You simply go to the pharmacy, pay their private dispensing fee, and collect your medication.

  • Can you prescribe any medication? No. For safety reasons, we do not prescribe controlled drugs (like strong painkillers or benzodiazepines) or medications requiring physical monitoring (like certain ADHD treatments) via virtual consultation.

  • Can you provide a specialist referral? Yes. If the clinician determines you need to see a specialist, we can provide a private referral letter that you can use with your health insurance or as a self-paying patient.

4. Technical Issues

  • What if the video link doesn't work? Don't worry. If there is a technical glitch, your doctor will immediately attempt to call you on your mobile phone to complete the consultation. If we cannot connect at all due to a fault on our end, we will reschedule you free of charge.
